At Darden-Perry Academy, we believe every student deserves a joyful, accessible, and empowering physical education experience. Our K–12 Physical Education (PE) Program blends traditional athletic development with mind-body wellness, offering students a balanced pathway to physical health, emotional well-being, and lifelong fitness.

Yoga at Darden-Perry Academy

Yoga is a signature element of our PE program.

Our yoga curriculum supports students with:

  • Improved focus, attention, and regulation

  • Reduced stress and anxiety

  • Increased strength, balance, and flexibility

  • Enhanced body awareness and confidence

  • A safe and inclusive activity accessible to all learners

Our K–12 yoga program progresses each year — from playful movement in early elementary to structured mindfulness practice and physical conditioning in high school.

 

Program Overview by Grade Level

 

Elementary School (K–5)

  • Fun, skills-based physical activities

  • Age-appropriate games that build coordination & teamwork

  • Introduction to fitness: stretching, balance, rhythm, motor skills

  • Weekly yoga & mindfulness sessions

  • Social-emotional learning woven into movement

Middle School (6–8)

  • Team sports: basketball, soccer, volleyball, track, and more

  • Intro to fitness training: agility, strength, cardio

  • Structured yoga units for posture, breathwork, and core strength

  • Health education linked to real-world wellness habits

  • Inclusive fitness activities for all skill levels

High School (9–12)

  • Personalized fitness pathways (strength training, conditioning, cardio)

  • Advanced team & individual sports electives

  • Full yoga curriculum including flow sequences, stress management, and recovery

  • Leadership: student-led warm-ups, yoga demonstrations, coaching basics

  • Preparation for lifelong health and wellness

Daily & Weekly PE Experience

Students experience a balance of:

  • Movement warm-ups and stretching

  • Skill-building and team activities

  • Strength and cardiovascular fitness training

  • Yoga and mindfulness practice

  • Cool-down and reflection time
